Synopsis[]

1984. It has been thirty years since the island nation of Japan suffered the terrible and debilitating attack of the monster known as Godzilla. But when a fishing vessel disappears off the active volcano of Daikoku Island, it sparks a search which uncovers a terrible omen for the Pacific nation: Godzilla has been resurrected, and he is coming home.

For Prime Minister Mitamura (Keiju Kobayashi), the situation is one crisis after another straining his calm countenance to the breaking point. For Goro Maki (Ken Tanaka), what was originally the scoop of a century has become a fight for survival. For Dr. Hayashida (Yôsuke Natsuki), it represents the chance to both study the ultimate expressions of nature, and to save the lives of humanity and the creature. And for Steve Martin (Raymond Burr), one of the few survivors of his original attack, it means the rebirth of a nightmare he has harbored for decades.

The Movie Maestro presents Godzilla: Resurrection, a hybrid cut of The Return of Godzilla and its Americanized recut, Godzilla 1985. Gone are 1985's Western propaganda additions, combined with a more rapid pace and the additional Steve Martin subplot. Also included is a new prologue detailing the chilling origins of the new King of the Monsters.

Godzilla is back.
