"It has been 10 years since the Sewol Ferry sank. After terrifying sightings of Gwishins that took the forms of the lost students who drowned, the Korean Government, out of fear, decided to ban the practice of honoring the victims. However things only get worse when a giant monster, formed from the souls of the drowned students, emerges from the spot where the ferry sank to get their revenge. It is up to a group of students to try to convince the government to change their ways to stop the spirit of the ferry from destroying the country that they once trusted."

Trivia[]

  • This will be the first South Korean Godzilla movie ever produced.
  • This is the first Godzilla movie to get a NR-17 Rating. This is due to people, many of them the families of the students, having "severe heart attacks" during several (really creepy) jumpscares of Gwishins and Guminhos in several scenes.
  • This is also the first Godzilla movie that does not connect to Nuclear disasters, instead it is based on a ferry.
  • The end-credit song "Spring Day" by BTS is a tribute to the students and passengers who died on the ferry. A remix of it will be used in the upcoming trailer of it, while will be released on a undisclosed date.
  • With the possible exception of Varan, this is the only film that doesn't feature any of the Godzilla monsters. Instead, it features creatures and beings from Korean Mythology.
  • The Sewol Ferry Tragedy is the worse modern-day sinking in Korean history, 305 people drowned with 5 people still missing to this day, many of them were high school students on a school field trip. The Korean Government denied the truth of what happened to the victim's family and friends who are fighting for the truth for 7 years. This event could have been prevented, but it was greed and self-pride to cause so many lives to be lost. April 16th is a sad reminder to everyone of this tragedy and that it should never happen again.
