Manila is the capital and the second largest city by population in the Philippines behind Quezon City. It is the main setting of the 2018 Godzilla film, The Return of Godzilla.

It is also the main setting of the Reiwa series, due to Manila being the capital city of the Philippines.

Name

Maynilà, the Filipino name for the city, comes from the phrase may-nilà, which translates to "where indigo is found".

Following the destruction of San Francisco and Mylene being acquitted for Olivia's death, Alicia decides to return to Manila to reunite with her mother, but finds out that Romina had already passed away only a few hours ago. Alicia realizes that she was too late, and immediately regrets her decision to help Mylene. A few days later, Alicia visits some of her former relatives, including her ex-husband and her supportive best friend, while apologizing to Mylene, before spending her final moments on Earth as Clara impacts central France, triggering another extinction event.

Although not shown, Alicia is implied to be killed by the global firestorm, which also resulted in the destruction of Manila along with the rest of human civilization, rendering the human race extinct.

• Manila was also featured in some kaiju films such as Rodan, Godzilla vs. Mothra, and Pacific Rim.
• Manila, alongside Mexico City and Madrid, are considered the world's original set of Global Cities due to Manila's commercial networks being the first to traverse the Pacific Ocean, thus connecting Asia with the Spanish Americas, marking the first time in world history when an uninterrupted chain of trade routes circled the planet.
• Manila has been damaged by and rebuilt from wars multiple times than the famed city of Troy and it is also the second most natural disaster afflicted capital city in the world next only to Tokyo yet it is simultaneously among the most populous and most wealthiest cities in Southeast Asia.
• The Spanish city of Manila was founded on June 24, 1571, by Spanish conquistador Miguel López de Legazpi. The date is regarded as the city's official founding date.
