The MonsterVerse is an American multimedia franchise and shared fictional universe that is centered on a series of monster films and TV series featuring
Godzilla, King Kong, Gamera and other giant monster characters produced by Legendary Entertainment and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. It also consists of Short Films, TV Specials, Comic Books, Video Games and Theme Park Attractions. Like many shared universes, common plot elements, settings, cast and characters are crossed over. Like the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the MonsterVerse releases it's films and media in phases. It has four phases. The first film, Godzilla (2014), began Phase 1, and concluded with Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2014). Phase 2 began with Godzilla: Resurrection (2027) and it concluded with Destroy All Monsters (2030). Phase 3 began with Rodan: Miba's Wrath (2031) and concluded with Destroy All Monsters: Earth Defenders (2036). Phase 4 was the final phase of the franchise, and the biggest, beginning with King Kong: Beyond Skull Island (2037) before concluded with a two part finale by James Cameron: Destroy All Monsters: Twilight of the Gods (2044) and Destroy All Monsters (2045), both often billed together as James Cameron's Destroy All Monsters, concluding the franchise on a high note.
The franchise's other media expanded the franchise and added more monsters, returning and original, and expanding the lore of the franchise, as well as viral marketing campaigns for Monarch and Apex. A making of documentary was also made, titled MonsterVerse: Evolution. The MonsterVerse was commercially successful, becoming one of the highest grossing media franchises of all time by 2035. Most films and series received positive reviews from critics and kaiju fans and has given the Godzilla, King Kong and Gamera franchises multiple and historical breakthroughs, such as winning multiple Oscars at the Academy Awards.
