She made her first appearance in the 2015 series On the Wings of Love, while her breakthrough roles include Pusong Ligaw, Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Araw Gabi, and #JusticeForLove: End of the World.
In 2022, Ortega appeared as Cynthia Macaraeg in What We Could Be, in her first lead role. She is currently starring as Jamie Robinson in Voltes V: Legacy, a live-action Philippine adaptation of the Japanese anime series of the same name by Toei Animation.
Personal life[]
Maria Ysabel Ortega Lapid was born on January 25, 1999 in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte to a Filipino actor and politician, Lito Lapid, and Filipina singer Michelle Ortega. She graduated Bachelor of Arts with a degree of Political Economy in University of Asia and the Pacific.
Career[]
ABS-CBN (2015–2019)[]
Ortega's first appearance was in the 2015 series On the Wings of Love as Angela Stevens-Fausto, in a supporting role. This series is notable for its setting, which takes place in San Francisco, California. Her next major appearance was in the 2016 series Born for You as Niña, in an antagonist role.
Pusong Ligaw became her notable work under ABS-CBN, as Charlotte "Charlie" Quiñones, in another antagonist role. At the same time, she was given more supporting roles like in Precious Hearts Romances Presents and in some episodes of Maalaala Mo Kaya.
GMA Network (2019–present)[]
By 2019, Ortega transferred to GMA Network after signing a contract with GMA Artist Center. Her first major appearance was in the 2019 series The Gift as Sabina Marcelino. She also became a regular host of Studio 7 while making guest appearances in Maynila and Pepito Manaloto.
#JusticeForLove: End of the World (2020)[]
During 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic affected the entertainment industry, shutting down or delaying production of television programs and films. Nonetheless, Ortega was cast in #JusticeForLove: End of the World as Olivia Imperial. While her character's screentime in the film is short, it served as a major plot device of the film, which resulted in Ortega being recognized by a larger audience, as the film received critical acclaim and became a commercial success, renewing interest in the disaster film genre and the real-world discussion of asteroid impact avoidance.
Voltes V: Legacy & What We Could Be (2021 - present)[]
Following the success of #JusticeForLove: End of the World, Ortega was cast as Jamie Robinson in the 2023 series Voltes V: Legacy, which is based on the Japanese anime series by Toei Animation. By 2022, she recently appeared in the romantic-drama series What We Could Be as Cynthia Macaraeg, in her first lead role.
